Dance Instructor

Job Summary: Instruct students in a specific form of dance, as well as producing and directing dance performances. Positions are available for preschool, youth and adult programs, as well as for work with dance companies.

Department: Program and Development

Schedule: 5-40 hrs/week, summer and year-round positions available

Pay: Salary commensurate with experience

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provide a meaningful experience for students enrolled in dance classes
• Ensure students’ personal safety, well-being, and enjoyment consistent with the program’s mission and policies
• Observe students to determine physical and artistic abilities and potential
• Explain and demonstrate dance techniques and method of body movement with music
• Create quality dance performance piece(s) for campers to be produced at summer events and recitals
• Ability to teach dance skills to students of all ages
• Write weekly lesson plans/curriculum as disseminated by the program coordinator
• Arrive fully prepared for all classes
• Responsible for ensuring that all locations used are clean and presentable, before and after class
• Assist with the inventory of supplies and equipment
• Attend instructors meetings and training sessions
• All other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• Considerable experience in dance instruction and/or choreography
• Experience working with children
• Excellent public communication skills, both written and verbal
• Ability to accept guidance and supervision
• Competent, reliable, independent, and adaptable
